Shihan Toshio Tamano est né le 14 septembre 1942 dans Tokyo, Japon. Après avoir étudié plusieurs arts martiaux, il a rejoint l'école "Shorei-Kan Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karaté" en 1960 dirigée par Maître Seikichi Toguchi. Après avoir reçu un diplôme d'une université de Tokyo avec un degré architectural, Shihan Toshio Tamano a décidé de consacrer sa vie pour étendre le Karaté Shorei-Kan aux peuple occidental et est arrivé aux Etats-Unis en 1969.

Après être resté 13 ans à New York, il est allé vivre avec sa famille à Milan, en Italie pour enseigner son art en Europe. A l'heure actuelle, ils résident à Oleans en France et Maître Tamano supervise l'organisation du Shorei-Kan Europe.

En plus du Karaté, Shihan Toshio Tamano a aussi étudié le Kobudo d'Okinawa avec Maître Shimpo Matayoshi (le directeur du style Kingairyu) et dans les années suivantes avec Maître Eisuke Akamine (le directeur du style Taira).

Après avoir appris l'art du Kobudo à New York pendant plusieurs années, il a trouvé que la méthode de l'enseignement de l'art qu'il a appris de ses maîtres d'Okinawa, n'était pas suffisament bien a développé. Ainsi, il a créé un système instructif et l'a appelé la méthode "kobudo d'Okinawa Shorei-Kai".

Shihan Toshio Tamano enseigne cet art partout dans le monde et est l'auteur de plusieurs livres et articles sur le Karaté et le Kobudo.

Shihan Toshio Tamano was born on September 14, 1942 in Tokyo, Japan. After having studied several martial arts, he joined Shorei-Kan Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate school in 1960 headed by Master Seikichi Toguchi. Upon graduating from a university in Tokyo with an architectural degree, Shihan Toshio Tamano decided to devote his life to spread Shorei-Kan Karate to the occidental people and went to the U.S. in 1969.

After 13 years in New York City, he and his family moved to Milan, Italy in order to teach his are in Europe. At the present moment, they reside in Oleans, France and supervise the organization of Shorei-Kan Europe.

Along with Karate, Shihan Toshio Tamano also studied Okinawan Kobudo with Master Shimpo Matayoshi (the headmaster of Kingairyu style) and in the later years with Master Eisuke Akamine (the headmaster of Taira style). After having taught the art of Kobudo in New York for years, he found that the teaching method of the art, which he learned from his Okinawan masters, was not yet well developed. Consequently, he has created an instructional system and call it "Shorei-Kai" Okinawan Kobudo System." Shihan Toshio Tamano teaches the art throughout the world and is the author of several books and articles on Karate and Kobudo.
